Team ISRO is hoping that the sun rises on the Shiv Shakti Point, where the lander and rover are parked. As soon as the sun rises, the equipment will come back to life, said ISRO Chairman, S Somanath.
The ndian Space Research Organization (ISRO) will wait another 14 days to establish contact with Chandrayaan-3's Vikram lander and Pragyan rover. ISRO will continue attempts to revive the Chandrayaan-3 lander and rover till the next sunset on the Moon which is slated for October 6, 2023.
However, it is not certain when the contact with Chandrayaan-3 instruments will be established. ISRO shared an update saying that it made efforts to establish communication with the Vikram lander and Pragyan rover to ascertain their wake-up condition, but as of now, no signals have been received from them. The space agency added that it would continue efforts to establish contact.
After a 40-day journey into space, the Chandrayaan-3 lander, 'Vikram', touched down on August 23 at the uncharted lunar South Pole making India the first country to do so. After traversing over 100 meters on the lunar surface from the Shiv Shakti Point, the touchdown spot of the lander Vikram on the lunar surface, the rover Pragyan was safely parked and set into sleep mode on September 2, 2023.
If ISRO is able to revive the lander and the rover, the information that is derived from experiments that could once again be conducted by the Chandrayaan-3 payloads would be a bonus. Former ISRO scientist, Tapan Mishra said that confirming the presence of water would be the next important thing.
