On Saturday, Mr. Garcetti talked about how it was an honor to meet the chairman of ISRO and how they were dedicated to further enhancing the space collaboration between India and the US.He met with Chairman S Somanath at the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) headquarters on Friday as part of his official visit to Bengaluru, where they talked about the continued space collaboration between India and the United States.

The ISRO chairman brought up the possibility of working with academic institutions in the United States and India to create cutting-edge detectors and packaging technologies during the discussion.


Next in order to facilitate other nations' use of space platforms, he also emphasized the significance of developing and standardizing docking interfaces throughout human space projects. Collaborating to construct a navigation system on the Moon, whether it be on the surface or in orbit, was another point he made.


The talks that ensued, according to ISRO, demonstrated the common interests and objectives of the two nations in promoting space science, technology, and the space economy. The use of the Laser Reflectometer Array on Chandrayaan-3, the Artemis Accord, NISAR, and ongoing affiliations through several Joint Working Groups were also discussed.

Mr. Garcetti also asked about the Department of Space's involvement in promoting commercial space operations.

Speaking further, Chairman Somanath stated that Indian facilities outside ISRO labs are building space-bound hardware and payload technology for the first time.


In order to provide Indian businesses access to the global market, ISRO intends to source payloads and satellites from them for its programs. Additional discussions included NASA's involvement in India's proposal for a G-20 satellite addressing environment and climate change, as well as the promotion of commercial companies' collaboration for faster and more efficient results. The Gaganyaan cargo module was also discussed as a potential means of transferring cargo to the International Space Station.


The ambassador conveyed his admiration for ISRO's contributions to international space exploration as well as its achievements. Further, Future plans were also discussed, such as continuing balloon tests, having professionals from both sides visit each other, and identifying milestone events.
