Tamil Nadu's Bold Initiatives in Space Tech and Deep Tech Policies.

Chennai, Tamil Nadu: In a significant move to strengthen its position in the global space sector, Tamil Nadu's Industries Minister, TRB Rajaa, announced the upcoming launch of a Space Tech Industrial Policy. This initiative aims to enhance the state’s presence in the space industry, following ISRO's plans to establish a second spaceport at Kulasekarapattinam in Thoothukudi.

Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation (Tidco) is also developing a Space Park near Kulasekarapattinam to foster research, development, and industrial collaboration.

To boost employment and economic growth, eight new State Industries Promotion Corporation of Tamil Nadu (Sipcot) parks will be established, focusing on central Tamil Nadu. The parks will be located in:

  • Gummidipoondi and Tiruvallur (1,500 acres)

  • Ottapidaram in Thoothukudi (1,000 acres)

  • Udayarpalayam in Ariyalur (175 acres)

  • Tiruverumbur in Tiruchy (150 acres)

  • Mannargudi and Koothanallur in Tiruvarur (150 acres)

  • Sriperumbudur in Kancheepuram (750 acres)

  • Outer Ring Road near Chennai (200 acres)

  • Kunnam in Perambalur (100 acres)

These parks aim to generate substantial job opportunities for the youth in the region.

Chief Minister M.K. Stalin is set to visit the US in August to attract more investments. This follows successful investment deals worth ₹7,442 crore after visits to the UAE, Japan, and Singapore. Additionally, MoUs worth ₹3,440 crore were signed during a visit to Spain earlier this year.

In a push for sustainability, the state will introduce a Circular Economy Investment Promotion Policy to reduce waste and encourage sustainable growth. A new Toy Manufacturing Policy and a roadmap for the Creative Economy are also in the pipeline.

Coimbatore will host a new regional office for Guidance Tamil Nadu, with another desk set to open in Tokyo. Sipcot will acquire land for tourism development through public-private partnerships and set up a Product Display Centre at Irungattukottai.

Sports grounds will be built within industrial parks at Gummidipoondi, Mambakkam, and Thoothukudi, alongside joint venture industrial parks with private participation.

Furthermore, the Tamil Nadu Industrial Investment Corporation will disburse loans worth ₹2,100 crore to MSMEs through bill financing, providing essential support for small and medium enterprises in the state.

Tamil Nadu's proactive measures in launching new policies and infrastructure projects reflect a robust strategy for economic growth, job creation, and industrial development. With these initiatives, the state is poised to become a key player in the global space industry and a hub for sustainable and innovative economic practices.
