Today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi opened the 14th edition of Asia's largest air exhibition, Aero India 2023, in Bangalore. The five-day expo will highlight local equipment and technology while also building relationships with foreign enterprises.
The event at the Yelahanka Air Force Station, themed 'The Runway to a Billion Opportunities,' aims to boost the 'Make in India' programme by showcasing indigenous equipment and innovations while also aiming to form relationships with international industries.
TAPAS-BH (Tactical Aerial Platform for Advanced Surveillance - Beyond Horizon), a Medium Altitude Long Endurance class unmanned aerial vehicle developed by the Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO), will also make its flying debut at Aero India.
"TAPAS is the DRDO's response to the ISTAR (intelligence, surveillance, target acquisition, and reconnaissance) tri-services needs. The UAV can operate at heights of up to 28000 feet and has an endurance of more than 18 hours "According to the DRDO.
In addition to TAPAS, the DRDO pavilion will include approximately 330 items divided into 12 categories, including Combat Aircraft & UAVs, Missiles & Strategic Systems, Engine & Propulsion Systems, Airborne Surveillance Systems, and Sensors, Electronic Warfare & Communication Systems.
The Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) will display a 'Aatmanirbhar Formation' flight of 15 helicopters comprised of all Advanced Light Helicopter types.
98 COUNTRIES ARE PARTICIPATING.
Witness the involvement of 98 nations, 32 Defence Ministers, 29 Air Chiefs, and 73 Chief Executive Officers of global and Indian original equipment manufacturers while demonstrating India's progress in aerospace and defence capabilities.
According to the organisers, 809 defence businesses will demonstrate advancements in specialist technologies and growth in the aerospace and defence industries.
"Airbus, Boeing, Dassault Aviation, Lockheed Martin, Israel Aerospace Industry, BrahMos Aerospace, Army Aviation, HC Robotics, SAAB, Safran, Rolls Royce, Larsen & Toubro, Bharat Forge Limited, Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL), Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL), and BEML Limited are among the major exhibitors," according to the statement. Aerial demonstrations by planes and helicopters will also take place at the event.
On February 13, the Ministry of Defence will host a 'CEOs Round Table' under the supervision of Minister of Defence Rajnath Singh.
Pavilion of Russia
According to Russia's official weapons supplier, the Sukhoi fifth-generation fighter jet, the Checkmate light tactical fighter, and the Orlan-30 drones will be among 200 types of the most sophisticated Russian-made weaponry and military gear on exhibit at the forthcoming Aero India 2023 international air show.
"Rosoboronexport will showcase over 200 varieties of the most modern Russian-made weaponry and military gear, including the Su-57E top-tier fifth-generation multirole fighter and the Checkmate light tactical aircraft," the state-run TASS news agency said, citing a company statement.
